On December 12, 2012, the Illinois Long Term Care Council held a Public Forum regarding Managed Care at the Illinois Department on Aging's Governor's Conference. The intent for this forum was to begin the dialogue regarding how the frail and vulnerable populations will fit into the Managed Care world. Advocates, state agencies, service providers and managed care organizations came together to discuss their concerns and clarifying points.

A Public Forum on issues related to long term care was held on December 8, 2010, at the Governor's Conference on Aging, Chicago, Illinois. The sponsors and organizers of the forum were the Illinois Long-Term Care Council and the Illinois Coalition on Mental Health and Aging. The sponsors believed that there were a number of critical issues facing related to long-term care issues, and one way to address those would be through a public forum. The forum would allow a number of presenters, representing a range of organizations and viewpoints, to present testimony on those issues. This testimony would then be made publicly accessible, and would be useful to other advocates and policy makers.
It was on this basis that this forum was organized.
The panel of the Public Forum consisted of:
Michael O'Donnell, Executive Director, East Central Illinois Area Agency on Aging; Chair, Legislative Committee, Illinois Coalition on Mental Health and Aging; Chair, I4A Legislative Committee; and Member, Illinois Long-Term Care Council;
Sally Petrone, State Long-Term Care Ombudsman, Illinois Department on Aging, and ex-officio member of the Illinois Long-Term Care Council;
Phyllis Mitzen, Co-Director, Center for Long-Term Care Reform, Health and Medicine Policy Public Research Group; and Member, Illinois Long-Term Care Council; and
Lee Beneze, Legal Services Developer, Illinois Department on Aging; Co-Chair, Illinois Long-Term Care Council; and Chair, Elder Law Section Council, Illinois State Bar Association.
