In-Home Service

This Community Care Program service provides assistance with household tasks such as cleaning, planning and preparing meals, doing laundry, shopping and running errands. Home Care Aides also assist clients with personal care tasks such as dressing, bathing, grooming and following special diets.

Mandatory Background Checks

All In-Home Service providers are mandated to follow the requirements of Public Act 91-0598. No In-Home Service provider shall knowingly hire any individual or retain an employee in a Home Care Aide position who has been convicted of committing or attempting to commit any of the crimes under the Criminal Code of 1961. The provider must initiate, on each applicant's behalf, a Non-Fingerprint Criminal History Check upon a conditional offer of employment.

Hiring a Family Member or Friend to be your Caregiver

In-Home Service providers participating in the Community Care Program may choose to hire any family member (including a spouse), a Power of Attorney, representative payee, legal guardian, friend or neighbor who meets qualifications, passes a background check, completes 24-hours of pre-service training, and agrees to be supervised by the provider. Not all In-Home Service providers employ family members as home care aides. Your Care Coordination Unit (CCU) will discuss options with you and you are free to change your mind at any time.
